A New Home

17May10

I’ve transferred my blog to a hosted wordpress platform. This old version will go away soon, but for now, please visit the new Unforseen Developments here.

The smart kids were out in droves enjoying the spring weather in the quadrangles of the University of Chicago last week.

Dinner Party

07Apr10

Last month Chef Rick Tramonto hooked up with Chicago Magazine for an article about his new book, Steak with Friends. Writer Rod O’Connor hosted a dinner party while Rick treated everyone to a cooking lesson with recipes from the book.

I had a couple hours to kill after a job in Houston last week and decided to check out the Houston Livestock Show. Grabbed a few quick shots:

It was tempting, but I passed.

Roger, Roger. What’s our vector, Victor? I got to climb around on a partially dismantled repossessed airliner the other day for a shoot. Yep, that guy poking his head out of that hatch is an airplane repo man. What kind of plane is it? “Oh, it’s a big pretty white plane with red stripes, curtains in the windows and wheels and it looks like a big Tylenol.” Sorry, Airplane! still makes me laugh…

Or is it “further?” I just learned that “further” is used to describe the figurative or metaphorical idea of distance, while “farther” denotes actual physical distance. In either case, my friend Carson is indeed almost to the top of the Chelsea Hotel in this photo.

Just returned from yet another adventure in New York. Had some meetings, did some shooting, and caught up with some old friends. Yep, it was cold, but nothing I can’t handle after all these years putting up with Chicago weather. Below are a few pics from my trip.

I made a trip to Indiana last week to photograph another wrestling show. Here are a few of my favorites. You can see the whole gallery at my web site

Chelsea Hotel

17Nov09

I’ve always wanted to stay at the Chelsea Hotel and I had my chance last week during a quick trip to New York.  Although it is under new ownership and has undergone some controversial renovations (see the pic of Bob Dylan’s room 211 below), there is still an indisputably bohemian vibe about the place. Even though the days of trading paintings for rent are over, I like to think there is still some magic left in the walls.
